The episode, word for word

Hey, welcome back to Our Best T1D Year! I'm Neil Greathouse, and if you've got 5 minutes, you've got time for this podcast, whether you're making coffee, stuck in traffic, or trying to remember what you had for lunch yesterday. (Spoiler: you won't. And that's kinda the point of today's episode.)

So... tracking. Writing stuff down. The thing none of us want to do, but every doctor expects us to remember when we show up for an appointment.

Doctor: "So, what happened with that low on January 5th at 2 AM?" Us: "...uhhh, what happened yesterday?"

Yeah. That's not realistic. So let's fix it.

Today, we're talking about why keeping a simple T1D log can be a total game-changer, without feeling like homework.

Most of us go into doctor's appointments blind: Doctor: "Why have you been running high in the mornings?" Us: "Uh... I have no idea."

And if we don't track anything, we have no data to work with. We don't know if it was the food. We don't know if it was our insulin timing. We don't know if it was stress, activity, or a full moon.

Without writing things down, we're basically trying to solve a puzzle without looking at the pieces.

But if we log just a few key things, suddenly, it's like getting a treasure map, and all the clues were right in front of us.

Let's be clear: this isn't about tracking every little thing.

We're only writing down 5 simple things:

Time, What time was this? Blood Sugar, What was my number? In Range or Out of Range, Just a or. Insulin, What did I take? Food / Activity / Notes, What did I eat? Work out? Stress out?

That's it. No spreadsheets, no math degree required.

And we're doing this for just one week. Because I guarantee you'll start noticing things you never saw before.

Look, I get it, tracking feels like a chore.

But one week of this challenge could change how we manage T1D for years.

And this isn't about being perfect. If we forget a few things? No big deal. What matters is we're looking for patterns.

Because we're not doing a bad job, we're doing a difficult job. And the more clues we collect, the easier it gets.
