How to Keep Glucose Tabs on You 24/7 (Without Them Turning Into Dust)

Listen to episode 7

The episode, word for word

Hey, welcome back to Our Best T1D Year! I'm Neil Greathouse, and if you've got 5 minutes, you've got time for this podcast, whether you're on a walk, waiting for coffee to kick in, or realizing that yet another streaming service just raised its price.

Seriously, when did watching TV become a luxury investment? I feel like Chandler from Friends when he screamed, "Could this BE any more expensive?!"

Anyway, today, we're handing over the mic to the T1D community, sharing real stories from people who finally made the switch to glucose tablets.

Before we get into what changed their minds, let's be real, we've all had reasons for NOT using glucose tabs.

Here are the top three excuses people give: 1⃣ "They taste like chalk." 2⃣ "I just prefer juice/snacks." 3⃣ "I keep forgetting to buy them."

Sound familiar? Yeah, same. But here's the thing, so many people who finally switched say they'd never go back.

Let's hear why.

"I got tired of feeling awful after treating a low."

No more juice-box-to-250 rollercoaster.

No more waking up in a sugar coma because I overtreated at 2 AM.

"I actually like knowing exactly how much I'm taking."

4g of carbs per tab = no guessing, no panic snacking.

No more "I think I had 12 sips of juice but who even knows at this point."

"I finally kept them everywhere I needed them."

Car, nightstand, work bag, jacket pockets.

Now when I'm low, they're actually there.

At the end of the day, most people who switched say the same thing: It just makes life easier.

Before we move on, let's take a second to appreciate the progress we made.

Treating lows doesn't have to feel chaotic. Glucose tabs work (even if we still don't love them). Small habits add up over time.

If this challenge taught us anything, it's that having a plan makes things easier. The goal was never perfection, just getting a little better at treating lows without over-treating.

And we did that. Even if it wasn't pretty.

No matter how February went for us, we showed up.

Maybe we switched to glucose tabs. Maybe we just thought about switching. Either way? That's progress.

Now, we're moving on to a new challenge, and this one? It's gonna help us more than we realize.

Because we're not doing a bad job, we're doing a difficult job.

And every time we make one small change that helps? That's a win.
