You Did That. Sleep, Struggle, and a Whole Lot of Growth.
You spent a month working on one of the most overlooked parts of T1D management: sleep. Here’s why that matters more than you think, and what’s next. Today, We’re Covering: The real wins you built this month Why paying attention to sleep...
The episode, word for word
I'm Neil Greathouse, I've been living with type 1 diabetes since 1992, and this is Your Best T1D Year. This podcast is under 5 minutes, about the same length of time it takes to accidentally open TikTok, promise yourself "just one scroll," and then forget what decade it is. Every episode, we focus on one small habit that helps us feel less overwhelmed by diabetes... and a little more like ourselves again.
This month, we worked on sleep, and today? We're wrapping it up. But not with a gold star. With something better: perspective.
Think about it... You spent an entire month paying attention to something most people totally ignore.
I should tell you guys about the time I fell asleep on the job in a factory one time. I worked at an aluminum can company and the CEO took a tour with some high level execs through our area but I had fallen asleep on a table.
That's how I got the nickname "Rip Van Winkle". You made tweaks. Tried new things. Maybe you even set a bedtime alarm. And on some nights? You didn't get more sleep... But you did understand the "why" behind your high morning BG. That matters.
That's real growth.
You gave your body a chance to respond better to insulin. You gave your brain a chance to breathe. You gave your soul a break from the nonstop calculations. And the best part? You built habits that'll stick even after this month ends. Maybe not every night. But enough to shift the way you manage this thing.
So here's where we're going:
June is all about the pre-bolus.
That small-but-mighty move of taking insulin before you eat. We're going to cover the science, the strategy, the mistakes, and the times we totally forget, all with a little humor and a whole lot of grace. Because pre-bolusing? It's not about perfection, it's about giving insulin a head start so you don't have to play catch-up all day. And trust me... it's a game-changer.

And just in case no one's told you this lately:
You've made incredible progress this month.
Your Best T1D Year is all about you - making progress.. And I am honored to be in this with you.
