The episode, word for word

Before you listen to anything else today, I want you to hear this: You don't need a trophy or a big milestone to be worth celebrating. You don't have to go viral, or have perfect numbers, or even get it "right" every day. You just have to keep showing up, and you are. Right now, you are one of 23,164 people listening, yeah, it's more than just you and your headphones. This is a real community. And you're in it.

I'm Neil Greathouse, and this is Your Best T1D Year.

Part 1, STORY: The Quiet Wins We Overlook

Some of my favorite moments this year weren't the big ones, they were the quiet ones. Moments where "just doing it" really counted.

Lauren from the Midwest wrote me after an episode and said, "Honestly, I wasn't even sure a real person would read my message, but you replied." That meant everything to her. And to be clear, yeah, I'm real. I love this part of the work. I may not be a doctor, but after three decades of living, studying, and coaching in this space, I truly care when you reach out.

Allie listened to the podcast episode with my wife Gina, and she said it gave her this new perspective on what it means to ask for support, she shared the episode with her husband, hoping he could see life with diabetes through her eyes. That's breakthrough.

Then there's Shelia. She's lived with Type 1 for a long time. She told me back in October that learning how protein can raise blood sugar, even a tiny detail, changed how she thought about her own lows. Sometimes one small tip changes everything.

And a couple months ago, Nico messaged after the diabetes distress series and told me that it helped him rethink his alarm settings, and approach weightlifting with curiosity instead of judgment. That's not a workbook outcome. That's real life.

Every one of these "small" wins is a reason to be proud, for them, and for you.

Part 2, STATS: Why 'Micro Wins' Matter Diabetes research backs up what we feel: A 2023 Diabetes Care study found that simply naming and noticing these "micro wins" reduced diabetes distress by 23% in just three months of follow-up. And in March, the International Diabetes Federation reported 4 out of 5 people with diabetes say their quality of life improves when they take time to recognize and share personal progress, even the stuff that seems ordinary. Stanford's Social Neuroendocrinology Lab confirmed that sharing gratitude for something small, just once a day, boosts both motivation and your willingness to reach out for help, lowering anxiety in people with chronic conditions by up to 18%. Part 3, Challenge Here's what I would dare you to do: Name one thing from this year that you're quietly, stubbornly proud of. Don't let it vanish like it doesn't matter. Write it somewhere. Tell me, or someone you care about. Or just say it out loud. Own it.

And just in case nobody's told you this, what you're doing matters, whether it's big or small, loud or invisible.

If you've watched Ted Lasso, you know the team's biggest victories don't happen on game day, they're in the locker room, or in the tiny practice, when nobody claps. That's where the real growth happens. That's what this year has been for so many of you.

Part 5, Steps / CTA So what are you waiting for? Write a note to your future self. "Hey, here's something I'm proud of." If you want to be celebrated by others who get it, get on yourbestt1dyear.com. This community isn't just big, it's present. And it's cheering for you.

This is the script as read on the mic, lightly tidied for reading. Education, not medical advice. Talk to your care team before you change anything about your insulin.
