The episode, word for word

Hey, welcome back to Our Best T1D Year! I'm Neil Greathouse, and if you've got 5 minutes, you've got time for this podcast, whether you're making lunch, stuck in traffic, or suddenly realizing your blood sugar has a mind of its own.

Because let's be honest, sometimes diabetes makes no sense... until we start tracking.

Today, we're looking at the surprising patterns people have already started noticing from tracking. Even if you've only logged a few things, I promise, you've probably learned something new about your blood sugar.

When we track, we see things we never noticed before. Some of the biggest realizations people have:

"My breakfast insulin timing is way off."

Turns out, waiting 15 minutes before eating makes a huge difference.

"That 'small snack' I wasn't tracking actually spikes me more than I thought."

Looking at you, handful of crackers that somehow sent me to 250.

"My workouts don't always lower my blood sugar."

Cardio? Drops like a rock. Strength training? Sometimes spikes first, then drops.

"Stress is actually one of my biggest blood sugar triggers."

Work emails = high blood sugar.

Deep breath = lower blood sugar.

Maybe I should just live at a spa?

None of this is random. It's just invisible until we write it down.

Now that we see the patterns, how do we use them?

Step 1: Pick One Change to Experiment With If breakfast spikes, try pre-bolusing earlier. If workouts are unpredictable, log them and adjust accordingly. If stress is a factor, test what helps, deep breathing, walking, or even music.

Step 2: Keep It Simple

No need to track forever.

Just write down what stands out.

It's about learning, not getting everything "right."

Step 3: Give Yourself Credit

We've already learned more than we knew last week.

That's a win.

Tracking isn't about being perfect, it's about getting better at predicting what's next.

And that's the real power of this challenge, not just collecting numbers, but collecting clues that actually make diabetes easier.

Because we're not doing a bad job, we're doing a difficult job. And every small piece of insight makes it just a little bit easier.

I've partnered with Risely Health to give away a free One Sheet Journal, because I know how powerful tracking can be, and this tool makes it simple.
